Italian Sausage Heros for The Crock Pot

It is cool in my neck of the woods and thought we should bring out our crock pot recipes. Here is a delicious one =)
This is from Better Homes and Gardens neew crockery cooker cookbook
1 pound bulk Italian sausage
1/2 pound ground beef
1 cup chopped onion
1-15 ounce can tomato sauce
1 71/2 ounce can tomatoes, cut up.
1 4 ounce can mushroom stemps and pieces , drained
1/2 cup pitted sliced olives
4 teaspoons quick cooking tapioca
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon dried oregano, crushed
1/8 teaspoon pepper
dash garlic powder
8 french style rolls, split lengthwise
6 ounces sliced mozzarella cheese

In a large skillet cook sausage, ground beef and onion till meat is brown and onion is tender, Drain off fat.
Meanwhile, in a 3 1/2 or 4 quart crockery cooker  combine tomato sauce, undrained tomatoes, mushrooms, olives and tapioca, sugar, oregano, pepper and garlic powder. Stir in meat mixture. Cover, cook on low heat setting for 10-12 hours.



Using a fork, hollow out bottom halves of rolls, leaving 1/4 inch thick shells. Place cheese in bottom halves , trimming as necessary to fit . Spoon meat mixture into rolls. Cut remaining cheese into strips and place atop meat mixture. Cover with roll tops. Makes 8 servings
